Furniture Shopping Tips in Reno & Tahoe
- February 20, 2019 by The Find in Furniture Buying Tips
Furniture shopping in Reno and Tahoe – or anywhere – should be fun, but finding the right piece at the right price can be challenging. We want to help! So before you block out your entire weekend to scour all of your local options, check out these furniture shopping tips.
Look Online First
From social media pages to online reviews to the official store website, you can find out a lot about a furniture store before you even leave your house. Check out Instagram and Facebook for a look at things like new inventory, look for customer reviews to see what people liked (or didn’t), and have a look at the store website. At the very least, you want to be sure it’s open before you drive over!
Financing? Read the Fine Print!
Box stores and chains are known for zero-interest down deals. It may sound like a great idea if you have an entire house to furnish, but don’t assume you’re getting anything for free. When a furniture store offers a zero-percent interest loan, financing costs have absolutely been built in to that pricing model. That means you’re actually buying all of that furniture at a big mark-up – all because you want it all right this minute. If you can exercise a little patience, you’ll be far better off. Not only will you avoid the matching set aesthetic that’s truly the least imaginative method of decorating, you’ll actually save money.
Choose Quality, not Quantity
Practicing patience means you’re also making better choices, which makes those higher-quality pieces that will last (and look beautiful doing it) all the more feasible. Don’t assume the cheapest option is the best option, and consider the wisdom of spending a little more on something that will really last. Don’t let those the glossy catalogs fool you – quality is often sacrificed when you’re shopping at the chains and big box stores! You’re much better off avoiding veneers, particleboard and composite construction, so spend some time really checking out any potential furniture pieces. And if you’re shopping online, be extra careful!
Look for the Owners
When you talk with the owners or managers of a store, you have a better chance of finding exactly what you’re picturing. At The Find, we love helping people find just the right piece, and we’re pleased to offer complimentary design assistance. Visit us Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm and let’s see what you find.
