Three Mistakes to Avoid When You Order a Semi-Custom Sofa

Semi-custom sofas and sectionals here at The Find in Reno are a wonderful way to get exactly what you want. Still, sofa shopping itself can be tricky, involving hours of searching for that “perfect piece.” Going the semi-custom route means choosing your fabric, scale, configuration, and details. And that means being certain that you’re taking everything into consideration. Here are three mistakes to avoid when you order a semi-custom sofa.
Not Measuring Everything
It’s essential to measure correctly so you’re certain that a certain size and configuration will work in your space. It’s easy to underestimate how a piece of furniture will look at home, especially if you’re eyeballing it here at The Find. Our soaring ceilings and enormous floorspace won’t be a good indication of how the same piece of furniture will fit into your home, so make a point of checking dimensions. A good way to get a real sense of how a particular size or configuration will work at home is to lay it out with painter’s tape. That will give you the footprint, and you can use a tape measure to check height for a sense of the overall size.
Make sure to measure your home’s entryways and hallways too! You have to be able to fit your fabulous new sofa through the door. Here’s a good rule of thumb: the width of your entryway needs to be bigger than the piece’s depth or its height – otherwise, it’s not going to fit.
Skipping Fabric Samples
Our sectionals and sofas look amazing on the floor, but that’s just the beginning! We have hundreds of fabric swatches so you can find the texture and color that will work for you. You get to choose your sofa and pillow fabrics, and with our free design consultation, we can help you zero in on the perfect combination for your home.
Overlooking Rugs
If you have a rug in your living space and you hope to keep it under the new sofa or sectional, be mindful of size. A rug should extend all the way beneath the furniture on top of it, and at the very least, the front legs of major upholstered pieces need to go over it. No rug at home? No problem! But you might consider jumping on this stylish trend.
