It’s officially summer here in Reno! We may not have beach homes in landlocked Nevada, but that doesn’t mean we can’t fake it with beachy summer style. It’s a seasonal aesthetic that makes a space ideal for entertaining and relaxing. To that end, here are three simple summer decor tips from The Find Reno.

Lighten Up

Light and airy colors are perfect for the spring and summer, and slipcovered furniture makes it easy to swap with the seasons. If you didn’t go the slipcover route with your sofa or chairs, you can change the feel of a room just by changing up your accessories. Try incorporating bright throws and pillows, beachy artwork and decor pieces in natural materials (think linen, driftwood and jute) to work in a more casual summer vibe.

Changing out heavy draperies for lightweight curtains and sheers is another way to lighten and brighten a space. Skip the curtains altogether and maximize your view with valances for a finished look.

Bring the Outside In

People tend to think of outdoor elements when they think of summer – fresh fruits, green grass, all that good stuff. You can evoke the same emotion by incorporating natural elements in the home. It’s a wonderful time of year for fresh fruit centerpieces, air plans and simple floral arrangements. Fresh fruits and flowers in particular will look beautiful and smell wonderful too. Other ways to bring the outdoors inside is through the use of natural fibers – jute, bamboo and hemp will add a touch of exoticism and texture.

Keep it Simple

The big key to an easy summer style is keeping things simple. Don’t get too fussy or too precious, and don’t go overboard. Above all, do what you like. It’s your space, and you get to decide what feels livable and relaxed this summer.
